There’s a lot of television commercials out there suggesting that in order to retire successfully, you must achieve a certain number so that you can live off your savings. At Mortach Financial, we approach retirement planning a bit differently. Most people retiring today can’t live on Social Security alone, and fewer people have traditional pensions than ever before. That is why Dave Mortach founded Mortach Financial in July 2000. His goal was to help residents of Northeast Ohio create what he calls their own personal pension through retirement income strategies designed to provide greater financial confidence.
After beginning his career during one of the most volatile periods in market history, Dave built his practice around helping clients protect what they have worked a lifetime to save. Using a customized process, he helps people protect their retirement savings, reduce unnecessary fees, avoid probate, and pursue long term growth while managing risk. As he often tells clients, “When the market goes up, you share in the gains. When the market goes down, you are protected from losses.”
Dave personally believes in the same strategies he recommends to his clients because he knows there is nothing worse than losing money while taking withdrawals in retirement. His client first approach has earned him an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and he has spent years educating retirees as the host of the Retirement Wealth Planning radio show. Dave has also appeared on New Day Cleveland and can be seen on local television stations including WKYC Channel 3, WEWS NewsChannel 5, and FOX 8, including Noon News.
Helping veterans and first responders through the Travis Mills Foundation has become the driving force behind Dave’s charitable work. By the end of 2026, Dave will have personally donated more than $4 million to the Foundation. Together with the generosity of Northeast Ohio, those efforts will have helped raise more than $13 million to support injured veterans and first responders.
Following the tragic 2025 ambush that claimed the life of one Lorain Police officer and seriously wounded two others, Dave began working closely with the Lorain Police Department. He has helped several officers attend the Travis Mills Foundation’s Post Traumatic Stress program, and additional officers continue to participate every month. In late 2025, Dave also hosted the entire Lorain Police Department and their guests for an appreciation dinner at Morton’s Steakhouse.
Dave has also been committed to giving back to the Northeast Ohio community in other meaningful ways. Alongside longtime WTAM radio personality Mike Trivisonno, he helped raise more than $4.5 million for Coats for Kids, providing warm winter clothing to children across the region. Together, they treated police departments from more than 60 Northeast Ohio communities to lunch from a local food truck as a way of thanking officers for their service and dedication.
Whether he is helping families prepare for retirement or supporting veterans, first responders, and local charities, Dave believes making a difference is about more than financial planning. It is about leaving people and communities better than you found them.
